What is Sinamay?
Sinamay is a popular hat-making foundation. It is woven from the processed stalks of the abaca tree, a type of banana native to the Philippines. Abaca fibre is three times stronger than cotton or silk, and a fabric made from 100% abaca can last for over 100 years. As a result, sinamay holds a very firm shape. Because it is a natural fibre, it holds colour beautifully.
Where are you located?
We have two locations, Blackburn, UK and Pitesti, Romania. Currently studio visits are only by appointment and at our studio in Pitesti Romania. We are planning another studio for our customers in Bucharest.
Are all hats online available?
Though most of the ready-made hats online are available to order, this can change overnight; as some product availability might not be updated immediately.
What is the size of the hats on your website?
All ready-made hats are made for standard head size: 22.5 inches | 57.15 centimeters.
I really want one of the hats on your website, but can I have it in another color and size?
If a hat description states that it is available also in other colors – then please reach out to us via contact us page to discuss color and size requirements.
How do I request a bespoke hat I want?
Please visit our Bespoke Services page to commission a tailor made hat.
I am not able to visit your studio, can I still order a bespoke hat?
Yes of course, our customers reside in different countries. We are very happy to customize our bespoke services to suit your needs by having virtual meetings on Zoom, Skype, Whatsapp or any app of your preference. Please drop me a line at carmen@mariacarmenmillinery.com
Once I place an order for a ready-made hat online, when will it be posted?
Once we receive an order, we make sure to post within 2 business working days.

Of course, we do get urgent requests few times a year. We accept urgent requests, depending on our availability. Please note - this will incur extra surcharge. Reach out to us at carmen@mariacarmenmillinery.com
